What's in a name?

Fresh out of high school with enough grades in art and technical drawing to study architecture at university in London, I was eager to begin!  Two years of sleepness nights sprawled over the drawing board (literally) were full of fantastic experiences. Exciting projects, trips all over.. so much to soak in.

Of course we learnt about the history of architecture and one of the books on our 'to read' list was 'The Poetics of Space' by Gaston Bachelard.

For me this book was like an escape from the technical side of the architecture. Today, years later, I still enjoy reading passages to remind me of the more emotional side.

The significance of the hut is part of the name of Chapter one in the book -
the house.
from cellar to garret.
the significance of the hut

...which I think is what we are exploring all the time in architecture and interior design.
